There has been a restock of Galenas flower which is always a welcomed occurrence. There were a few new strains and among them were the Potatoes. It’s a hybrid with 31.3% THC and 24.70 mg/g of b-Myrcene. The lineage is Han Solo Burger x DPC Cookies x Fotia.
b-Myrcene is the same terpene that drives some to eat mangoes when they consume THC. It is said that this terpene increases absorption of cannabinoids across the blood-brain barrier, causing a more potent effect. Some also claim b-Myrcene helps curb the munchies.
The flower came packaged in a standard blue and purple Galenas bag with a see-thru bottom. The tenth weighed 2.96 grams and contained a large stem that weighed 0.03 grams, or 3% of a gram. In the end I still got 2.93 grams of flower, which is a tenth of a gram over weight. I’d rather it be over than under, so I was still happy despite the big branch!
The smell was strong and earthy. There is definitely some gassiness in there. The medium and small-sized buds were dense and gave hefty resistance when squeezed. There was more physical matter to the buds than initially met the eye.
The buds were bright green in color with a yellowish hue, slight darker notes, and very small orange pistils that stuck close to the flower. There was only a slight amount of stickiness to the nugs but they broke up nice by hand. When ran through the Santa Cruz Shredder, the Potatoes held strong and didn’t turn to bone dust.
When flame hit flower I was impressed with the slowness of the burn. After being ground up, even just a small amount packed a satisfying pipe that ashed white. I was impressed with how medicated I felt after a relatively small amount.
It might be the placebo effect but I swear I tasted some potato flavor on the inhale and aftertaste. It had an earthy flavor without question. It’s a nice change of pace from all of the fruity and sweet flavors I seem to consume so often.
The strength and duration of psychoactive effects impressed me. It was a full-bodied, complete high that almost made me feel nostalgic, as this is how I remember weed used to be. This bud proves that a high THC and b-Myrcene combo can produce impressive results.
If you sample this strain, expect the pain and anxiety relief to last at least 90 minutes. In my opinion the Potatoes really do feel like a hybrid, with the top terpenes being b-Myrcene (typically indica), s-Limonene (typically sativa), b-Caryophyllene (typically indica), a-Humulene (typically sativa), Linalool (typically indica) and b-Pinene (typically sativa).
Upon my first consumption I didn’t feel sleepy, but rather inspired. I went for a run in the 68 degree early October weather while listening to the new instant-classic desert rock album Once Upon A Time In the Desert by the Brant Bjork Trio. I got a side stitch even though I hadn’t eaten or drank anything for several hours. I ultimately overcame this obstacle by taking it slow for a bit and not letting my mind dwell on the pain.
Later on after eating something and getting ready for bed, a second serving of Potatoes did lull me into a sleepy state. I haven’t had a strain with this much b-Myrcene since I was lucky enough to get a tenth of Galenas Alien Pebbles (Alien OG x Fruity Pebbles OG) a while back.
The Alien Pebbles tenth I sampled weighed 2.97 grams and had 24.40% THC, 3.46% Delta-9 THC, 23.70% THCa, 0% CBD, 0.72% CBGa, 0.12% THCv and 27.90 mg/g of b-Myrcene.
I gave the Galenas Potatoes a 9 out of 10 for taste, 3 for harshness, 9 for strength, 8 for smell strength, and over 90 minutes for length of medical effects.
Total THC 31.30%, total CBD 0%, Delta-9 THC 3.54%, THCa 31.70%, CBGa 1.06%.
Terpenes mg/g: b-Myrcene 24.700, s-Limonene 6.120, b-Caryophyllene 2.460, a-Humulene 1.360, Linalool 1.320, b-Pinene 1.060, Fenchyl Alcohol 0.752.
