There’s a grow shop in Akron called Indoor Gardens that offers a cannabis-growing class. Upon completion of the course, the instructors give each student a few cuttings in order to start their own small garden. A blog reader took the Indoor Gardens class and gave me a sample of his hybrid Cherry Zoap cut. Thank you for the weed!
Cherry Zoap hybrid
My sample of Cherry Zoap weighed 2.0 grams. The bud had a very sweet and fruity smell to it. The scent definitely gave me cherry vibes.
The nugs were trimmed nicely, with no visible stems, sugar leaves or leafy material. They were bright green in color with tiny, curly orange pistils that stuck close to the bud. Shiny trichomes were visible both on the outside and inside of the flower.
The nugs were far from dry. They gave a very nice squeeze and did not make a crunching sound while doing so. Flakes did not fall off while breaking the bud apart with my fingers, which is not something you can always say with dispensary weed.
For example, I recently bought a tenth of Jack Le’Pew from the Pure Ohio Wellness “Locally Grown” brand. The bud was dry as bone.
The ideal properties of the fresh, homegrown Cherry Zoap carried over to my grinder. When shredded through the Santa Cruz Shredder, or mashed though the Flower Mill, the Cherry Zoap held its own and behaved as expected. It didn’t turn to a powdery dust like some of the dryer strains I sample.
Cherry Zoap packedCherry Zoap punched
The Cherry Zoap burned at about a medium speed and ashed very light. I could tell it was flushed properly by both the ash color and taste. I didn’t taste any earth, dirt or nutrients.
There was an almost candy-like sweetness to the flavor. Alongside that, I could slightly detect the Zoap’s gassy, gluey properties. The top terpenes were probably limonene, myrcene, caryophyllene and maybe some ocimene or humulene. The smoke was not harsh and did not make me cough or produce phlegm.
The medical effects were pretty chill but I did seem to get sort of a sativa-like head buzz. This strain did not make me anywhere near sleepy, but I felt unmistakable body relaxation and pain relief. It also took away a nagging headache that was driving me crazy. The Cherry Zoap was excellent for use during morning and mid-day house chores.
I gave the homegrown Cherry Zoap hybrid a 7/10 for taste, 3/10 for harshness, 7/10 for strength, 6/10 for smell strength and 60 to 90 minutes for length of medical effects. Thanks again to the contributor for the excellent sample! May your thumb become greener with each harvest.
This past weekend I attended the 10th annual Cleveland Pinball & Arcade Show in Independence, Ohio. With over 100 games all set to free play, this is an event I try to attend each year. This time I came equipped with a Certified FL Sunrise sativa pre-roll to get me in the zone.
When I popped open the opaque black plastic tube I was greeted with a light citrusy scent. The joint had no branding or logos on the tip. The unbleached paper was made from wood pulp.
The densely-packed bat weighed 1.28 grams with crutch included. The plant material looked good, with no visible stems or unwanted matter.
Certified FL Sunrise Sativa Pre-Roll 21.5% THC
Upon sparking the single serve unit, I was glad to see that the ash color was very light.
The ash wasn’t dark, which was nice.
The harshness was low and the flavor was large. Although Limonene was listed as the fourth terpene, I still detected a predominantly citrusy taste. There was 2.36 mg/g of Ocimene, which is also known to be a citrusy terpene, and 4.49 mg/g of Myrcene, which is the terpene that helps give mangoes their taste.
I did not have to re-light the joint at all during the ten-minute session. The unit burned evenly and produced a nice oil ring around the cherry.
Oil ring around the FL Sunrise pre-rollI used a torch lighter to spark the jib.All good things must come to an end.
The medical effects from the FL Sunrise pre-roll were undoubtedly strong. The combination of myrcene, caryophyllene, ocimene and limonene along with the respectable THC percentage put me where I needed to be when it came time to play pinball. I was able to focus on the fun while feeling pain-free and at ease.
Grippin’ the flippersFrank was on hand for photo ops
I would definitely buy another Certified pre-roll if given the opportunity. The FL Sunrise joint burned slow and even, had a nice taste and packed an effective medical punch. Hopefully I get to try one of their infused pre-rolls at some point.
I gave the Certified FL Sunrise sativa pre-roll an 8/10 for taste, 3/10 for harshness, 7/10 for strength, 6/10 for smell strength and 60 to 75 minutes for length of medical effects.

From what I’ve heard, Firelands Scientific was the first company in Ohio to sell legal pre-rolls. I wasn’t able to make it to any of their Landing dispensaries when pre-rolls went live, but I was able to swing through the Akron Botanist a few weeks later. They were selling Firelands Northern Lights one gram pre-rolls for $12.

The joint came packaged in an opaque white tube, so I couldn’t see the product through the package. According to the label the paper was made from wood pulp, cellulose fibers and adhesive. The paper was probably bleached. The crutch was colorful and featured the Firelands Scientific brand name along with a <THC!> indicator.
Northern Lights joint tipNorthern Lights joint tip
When I popped open the tube, the marijuana scent wasn’t too overpowering, but it smelled appetizing. I didn’t get a chance to weigh the bat but it did look like a full gram of quality, stemless cannabis. The joint was nice and dense but had good airflow when I tested it out with a dry hit. You could say the joint appeared to be rolled to near perfection.
I headed back to the cornfield and sparked the pre-roll. It was windier than I had hoped for, and I had to use my body to shield the joint as I lit it with a handheld torch lighter. The wind was so strong that it was visibly moving the torch flame as I sparked the bat!
Back to the cornfield to test another Ohio pre-roll!
I was impressed with the way the joint sparked along with the initial ash color. Despite the wind, the joint lit up nice and evenly, producing a very light-colored ash.
Initial spark of the Northern Lights pre-roll
As I began smoking the joint, I noticed how cleanly the bud was burning. It tasted myrcene-heavy, which was earthy, herbal and sweet. I detected some floral woodiness from the linalool and sweetness from the ocimene. Caryophyllene lingered in the background with its signature spiciness. The flavor was intriguing and complex. This was the first time I had sampled Fireland’s Northern Lights flower.
It may have been from the wind, but the joint did start to run a little bit. I had to do some repair work to bring it back to an even burn.
The joint began to run and canoe.Thankfully I was able to repair the run with my lighter.
After I repaired the canoe the rest of the joint burned beautifully. The Northern Lights preroll had excellent airflow all the way down to the last puff. It took about ten minutes to smoke.
For me, the medical effects were heady, cerebral and uplifting. After the joint was finished I definitely felt different than I had ten minutes earlier. The effects lasted about an hour and a half to two hours, which was longer than I was expecting given the fact the joint was only 15.7% THC.
As I walked away from the cornfield, a bunch of tiny yellow butterflies followed and fluttered around me. I took it as a thank you for a shared appreciation of the cornfield’s beauty, serenity and hospitality.
I would not only buy this pre-roll again but I’d like to try some more Firelands joints to see what else they have in store for our lungs.
I gave the Northern Lights indica 15.7% THC pre-roll an 8/10 for strength (on par with the Buckeye Sour Larry Cross pre-roll I sampled), 8/10 for taste, 6/10 for smell strength, 3/10 for harshness and 90 to 120 minutes for length of medical effects.
Ingredients: Cannabis plant material, rolling paper (wood pulp, cellulose fibers, adhesive).

I have never been disappointed with Butterfly Effect’s flower. I once enjoyed a half ounce of 91 Royale and another time got a tenth of PPD that was some of the best purple-tasting bud in the Ohio program. When FRX in Elyria had a 42.0% off sale on April 20th, 2025, I picked up a half ounce of Black Jack at a reduced price.
The Black Jack’s lineage is Black Domina x Jack Herer. The top terpenes in my batch were terpinolene, myrcene and ocimene, a somewhat unique profile from what I’ve seen. It came packaged in a plastic half ounce jar with a plain black label and black plastic lid.
This bud had a strong, pungent scent. Beyond the classic weed smell there was a lot of muted fruitiness that seemed like a combination of apple and lemon. The Jack Herer influence was readily apparent in the scent, as I could detect that classic spiciness from the terpinolene. For some reason, the smell and taste of terpinolene kind of reminds me of banana. I couldn’t wait to find out of this stuff tasted like it smelled!
Unfortunately I did not weigh the half before initial consumption. The plastic jar was definitely filled to the brim with chunky nuggets, so I feel like it probably weighed up properly. The bud looked awesome, with no huge stems and no sugar leaves. Everything in the jar was smokable which is always a welcomed gift.
My last nug of Black Jack from Butterfly Effect
Butterfly Effect’s Black Jack nuggets were spongy yet dense. They were the perfect consistency without the need for a Boveda or Integra Boost humidity control packet. Color-wise, these buds were medium green with some darker flecks. The orange pistils were small and stuck tightly to the nugs.
When broken down by hand, the Black Jack shredded into nice little chunks. When I broke up the stuff through a grinder there was absolutely no dust produced. The broken-up flower was easy to work with and malleable, kind of like a flower putty. It packed up and burned beautifully and evenly.
Black Jack packed
My joints didn’t run whether they were pinners or hog’s legs. The burn speed was about medium and the ash was very light.
Black Jack smacked
There was no harshness or burning of the throat with this stuff. The taste was exquisite. It tasted just like it smelled! The sweet lemon notes were there, but I tasted more of that spicy apple flavor than anything, which to me is due to a combination of terpinolene and farnesene.
While limonene was not listed as a top terpene, terpinolene was the top terp. Usually bud that tastes super lemony has both limonene and terpinolene in high amounts, but it seemed like the lack of limonene prevented the lemony, citrus flavor from shining front and center.
I’d describe this bud as having a muted fruit taste (think apple or banana, not sharp citrus like orange or lemon) along with heavy herbal woodiness. The hoppy dankness was also there from the myrcene. It reminded me of the classic Jack Herer strain that I love or Buckeye Relief’s Schromulan, which is thankfully back on dispensary shelves.
The medical effects were definitely sativa. This is the kind of strain you want to smoke while getting work done. I killed two spider mites with one spray of neem oil: not only was I focused and motivated but my neck and back pain had vanished.
I would recommend Butterfly Effect’s Black Jack flower to anyone looking for an energizing sativa that tastes great and burns smooth. I could enjoy the smell of this stuff for hours on end. It was one of the best-smelling strains I had come across in a while!
I gave the Black Jack an 8 for taste, 3 for harshness, 7 for strength, 8 for smell strength and 60 to 90 minutes for length of medical effects.

Terpenes: terpinolene 1.40%, b-myrcene 0.53%, b-ocimene 0.46%. On Butterfly Effect’s official graphic for the strain they also list farnesene, which I believe could have been the fourth-top terpene in this strain due to the Black Jack’s apple-like smell and taste.
Total THC 21.34%, delta-9 THC 0.64%, delta-9 THCA 23.60%, total CBD 0.09%, CBDA 0.10%.
It had been several months since I’d been to Klutch’s Citizen dispensary in downtown Canton. Back when they had great prices on 510 carts and luster pods I was there quite often. Ever since recreational weed became legal in Ohio, Citizen got rid of the majority of their deals and raised the prices to $60 dollars a cart or pod and around $50 for a tenth. I hadn’t been back until now.
Within the past few weeks Klutch has released a series of strains in partnership with Berner’s Cookies brand. Some of the strains include Cheetah Piss, Blue Suede and That Badu. The one I went with was Blue Raz due to its high myrcene content and large amount of overall terpenes.
The flavorful Blue Raz is a cross between YD, E85 and Doggy Bagg. It was packaged in an opaque blue bag. The buds were not visible at all, not even through the bottom of the sack.
This is a hard to find strain at the moment!
As soon as I broke the seal and wrangled apart the childproof zip lock, I was hit with a pungent berry aroma. There was a refreshing sourness to the weedy smell. It was tangy but you could definitely detect a sweet fruity underlining. After one whiff I could tell this stuff was something I looked forward to smoking.
The tenth weighed 2.80 grams. After hearing that a friend’s Klutch Cookies bag weighed over 2.9 grams, I was hoping for a bit of a hookup. It was still pretty close to 2.83, and the nugs were nice, so it was what it was.
This flower looked stunning. I saw shades of deep green, orange and purple. There were lots of visible trichomes and very little stemmage. The buds were dense and broke down with elegance. The aroma was very strong and sweet upon breakup.
After running this stuff through the Flower Mill it was the perfect consistency for packing or rolling. When broken up by hand it stuck to my fingers and produced more smokeable flower than I expected.
It tastes as good as it looks!
It was refreshing to buy a tenth of bud that wasn’t dry. It seems like so much of the flower I’ve got from dispensaries lately has needed a drink of water. This is surely a factor when considering how slow the Blue Raz burned in both joint and bowl. Also, it ashed white when everything was said and done.
Blue Raz broken up by Flower Mill in a bowlThe Blue Raz ashed white
The Blue Raz tasted just like it smelled. The flavor almost reminded me of blackberries. It wasn’t so much of a blueberry taste as it was raspberry or blackberry. It was really unique! The sweet, skunky flavor lasted throughout the entire smoking experience. While it was heavy and powerful, the smoke was not harsh on the throat or lungs.
The medical effects were along the lines of a true indica. It was definitely strong and lasted over an hour. For me I did get a head high but I also felt medicated throughout the entire body. I became motivated to write this article and also produced a poem. While I’m a huge fan of sativas like Thai Kush, I also like heavier stuff such as this.
Blue Raz under high lighting
Akron Bloom employee Marshall told me that the Blue Raz almost made him feel weighed down, as if gravity had shifted. It was like his cheeks and body were being pulled downwards. Seeing how the flower has 21.70 milligrams per gram of myrcene and 5.24 milligrams per gram of linalool, I can see why this produced a heavy indica impact.
While I don’t plan on buying any more Cookies strains due to their price, it was worth it to get a tenth for review purposes. I enjoyed this flower and wish I could get more. I’d like to try the other Cookies strains as well. I might come across them some day, but for now I simply can’t pay $500 an ounce for marijuana.
I gave the Blue Raz from Cookies a 9 for taste, 3 for harshness, 9 for strength, 8 for smell strength and 60 or more minutes for length of medical effects.
Total THC 34.10%, Delta-9 THCa 37.30%, Delta-9 THC 1.37%, Total CBD 0.10%, CBDa 0.11%, CBD 0% (so I guess it’s all CBDa and not actual CBD until it is heated, where I suppose you’d lose 0.01% of the molecule to scorching).

The other day when browsing my local marijuana menu I noticed a new product, HASH (Holistic And Spiritual Health) 510 carts. They are a reasonably-priced full gram of live resin processed with pure n-Butane by CannAscend Ohio.
It’s been tough to find full gram live resin or rosin carts, as most of the carts here in Ohio are half gram or .84 grams at best. I figured since they were calling themselves HASH it better be good, so I decided to review the hybrid Propane variety as it sounded the gassiest.
At the time I was disappointed with the cart I had on my battery. It was an FRX (Farmaceutical RX) .5 gram J23 Live Terpene Infused 510 Cart, and it tasted old and bitter. The oil color was dark yellow and almost orange. It was extracted with propane and butane and had an expiration date of 12/28/2024 which was only a few weeks from the date of purchase.
The term “Live Terpene” is a bit misleading. The J23 cart’s ingredients list cannabis distillate, live resin terpenes and hemp-derived CBD isolate.
So that means the FRX J23 Live Terpene cart is a distillate cart extracted with propane/butane that is infused with “live resin terpenes”, which I suppose are terpenes from a live resin extraction but not the actual THC itself. The J23’s THC was supplied from a harsh propane/butane distillate. They even used CBD derived from hemp and not marijuana in this Frankenstein of a cartridge.
The HASH Propane cart had oil with a fresh looking, bright yellow color. The hue reminded me of Fire Rock’s Pacific Gold and Woodward cured resin carts. I wish the oil would look like this in all of the carts that I buy!
Here is an oil color comparison. On the left you’ll see the HASH Propane Live Resin cart on the ProPen. On the right lies the FRX J23 Live Terpene Distillate cart atop my old-school workhorse 510 battery from 2009.
The HASH cart lists “pure n-Butane” as the solvent and does not include any added terpenes or CBD. This means that the HASH cart is not rosin since there was a solvent used to pry the trichomes from the nugs.
Since it is basically BHO inside of the HASH cart, terpenes were preserved during extraction. This is in opposition to the J23 cart which was distillate, a highly refined form of THC devoid of terpenes. That’s why the live terpenes needed to be added to the J23 distillate for flavor and additional medical effects.
The HASH Propane cart tasted incredibly fresh and I gave it a 10 for flavor. It was very hashy, super gassy and remarkably clean. There was a slight hint of sweetness and fruitiness. I’m not sure if I have ever given anything else a 10 out of 10 for taste, and I have so far rated and reviewed 305 items for my Cannabinoid Compendium. It’s a title I seldom bestow and only do so after careful consideration.
The aftertaste was a rare experience to behold and appreciate. I found myself wanting to hit this cart just to enjoy the fantastic flavor. During ingestion there was barely a hint of harshness, you couldn’t even tell you were hitting the thing.
I set my E-Zone ProPen battery to 2.7 volts during use. This is my preferred battery for 510 carts. I love how it features a button for heat activation. For me, breath-activated batteries seem to leave a little bit of vapor in the chamber after each draw. With button-based batteries you can let go of the button a second or two before finishing your draw, allowing you to clear the chamber of any remaining vapor.
The E-Zone ProPen is based on a 400 mAh Yocan Kodo Pro Box Mod. It has a preheat function and resettable puff counter to see how many hits you’ve taken. It also lets you adjust your voltage from 1.8 to 4.2 volts in increments of a tenth of a volt. This allows you to really dial in the optimal temperature for each individual cart you use!
The battery’s maximum draw time per hit is 15 seconds, which is generous and maybe even excessive. To reset the ProPen’s puff counter, hold the main button and – button at the same time for a few seconds. I do this when starting a new cart to track the number of hits it takes me to finish the cart. To activate the ProPen’s preheat ability, click the main button twice.
The HASH Propane cart didn’t burn up unreasonably fast, but I was sad to see it go regardless. The one gram nature definitely helped it last longer. It did not leak.
Its medical effects were very powerful. It got me much more medicated than the J23 Live Resin Cart from FRX, or any distillate cart I’ve had recently.
I have a two-ton tolerance, and even vapes like Certified Flex Disposables and Buckeye Botanical Distillate Carts will leave me feeling less than medicated. However, the Propane Live Resin Cart was the fuego fuel I have been looking for.
It didn’t leave me feeling sleepy or lethargic. I felt uplifted, energized and sociable for over an hour. The only real downside to this cart was the fact that is smells pretty loud. This is to be expected with live resin and rosin, and given the pure taste, I am willing to compromise smell for flavor.
I gave the HASH Propane One Gram Live Resin 510 Cart a 10 out of 10 for taste, 2 for harshness, 9 for strength, 8 for smell strength and 60+ minutes for length of medical effects.
Here is what the packaging says about the product.

Dose: 14mg per 7 second inhale. Net weight: 1 gram.
I was advised by Jeff at Bloom in Akron to try the Truffle T 23.5% THC sativa flower from King City Gardens. He said it was one of the best strains he had ever tasted. I’ve had several strains from King City and have never once been disappointed with the flavor, so I was excited to see what this was all about.
The flower came packaged in the standard King City clear glass jar with a magnifying bottom. I love how you can get a nice look at the nugs right through the glass. I also admire the way the jar keeps the smell under wraps. Once you open that jar, though, prepare to party with pungent pot potpourri.
After I broke off a few chunks I took a picture of the Truffle T in the jar. Here’s a closeup of the nugs in the jar. This is exactly what you want to see when cracking open a fresh tenth.
There is a sweetness to the scent of this stuff. It has a cannabis smell but it’s not super gassy. It smells of citrus but definitely not lemon, strawberry, or blueberry. It honestly smells like orange candy for the most part. Not so much like orange PEZ but there was an obvious citrus smell. The last bud I smelled that was similar to this was the Moroccan Peaches from Galenas.
After smelling and seeing this tenth I was so excited that I forgot to weigh it before initial consumption. I was disappointed when I realized this. The tenth definitely didn’t seem underwewight. There were two succulent buds in the jar that produced lots of dense chunks when broke down.
There was an excellent trim on this flower with no spare stems or leaves. There were barely even any stems within the nuggets. The Truffle T had nice earthy green color with lots of purple and a bit of yellow hue. Thin, curly orange pistils jetted off the bud.
I spy green, purple, yellow and orange!
The stuff was dense and passed the squeeze test with ease. It stuck to my fingers while breaking it up. There were lots of visible trichomes on both the outside and inside of the flower. It was slightly dry and produced some dust through the grinder but I wouldn’t say it was overly dry by any means. It burned pretty slow in both joint and bowl. The flower ashed mostly light with a slight dark hue.
The smoke from the Truffle T wasn’t harsh at all. It felt like normal oxygen going down into my lungs. However, it did not taste like normal oxygen. Unlike the Dunk Contest from Neighborgoods it did not taste like smoke, grass, chlorophyll or dirt. It had a strong candy orange taste which was shockingly similar to the way it smelled. It wasn’t so much an earthy orange but more along the lines of a creamier citrus. You could even say there’s a bit of a sharpness to the orange taste.
The phlegmless exhale was easy on the throat while tasting vibrant and fresh. The aftertaste was truly a treat. It was incredible. I had a weedy orange smell on my breath. I could still taste the orange after the exhale. While smoking this stuff I thought to myself “Why can’t all weed taste this invigorating? I can’t buy cheap stuff anymore.”
Another pleasant surprise was the length of medical effects. Even though it was only a 23.5% THC flower it invigorated me for over 90 minutes. I was energized and inspired. Hunger approached as the effects wore down.
The Truffle T is high in Limonene, Pinene and Ocimene which are three terpenes often found in sativas. Some Linalool is thrown in there for a bit of balance and personality.
Nothing in the name Truffle T makes me think orange or citrus but this was definitely orange and citrusy. After consumption, others will instantly smell it on your person. It made the room smell good after use. The room didn’t smell like burnt smoke but more like the fumes of some sweet incense.
I gave the Truffle T from King City Gardens a 9 for taste, 3 for harshness, 8 for strength, 8 for smell strength and over 90 minutes for length of medical effects.

I have yet to sample some Klutch flower I didn’t like. They have many strains I haven’t tried. I view this as a research opportunity. I saw that tenths of their Sherbang #22 hybrid flower went on sale for 40% off, so I picked up a jar for review purposes. I didn’t get a chance to weigh it before my initial sampling.
According to this strain’s official website the lineage is Sunset Sherbet x HB. A strong, skunky OG marijuana odor is given off by these nugs. The closed jar could not contain the smell once the seal was initially opened. There is a sweet, almost blueberry hint to the smell that doesn’t quite translate through to the taste. To me, Sherbang #22 tastes dank and gassy.
This stuff was pretty sticky. It stuck to my fingers as I broke it up. THC residue remained on my fingers even after washing my hands. The flower held its own when run through a grinder, turning into a fluffy, malleable mixture of marijuana mash. It stuck to the teeth of my grinder and I had to use a titanium toothpick to get the chunks out.
Sherbang #22 burned with an acceptably slow speed in both bowl and joint. The ash was lightish gray in color. The flower itself was green with some yellowish tone and slight darker notes. Small orange pistils stuck to the bud. There was a tight trim with some slight stemmage throughout the nugs. It passed the squeeze test being a tiny bit spongy but respectably dense.
For taste I gave Sherbang #22 a 7 out of 10, 3 for harshness, 7 for strength, 8 for smell strength, and 60 minutes for length of medicinal effects. The strain felt like a middle of the road hybrid effect-wise and it was strong enough to where it gave me good pain relief. I would buy this strain again at the right price.
